Who Knew 21 Could Feel So Good? 2009 Recap

That’s right…I finally made it…I’m legal…21 years of age…¡Tengo ventiuno años!  I feel awesome!  I did great this semester grade wise (all A’s…yes indeed)…personal life (not so much)!!  All in all it was great!  I’ve had so many great opportunities to go places (Hollywood), learn new things (Social Psych and more about my friends), and even find out what God wants to do with my life (…you may not be able to handle this).  I’m so excited about 2010 that I’m already there.  Mentally, I’m in 2010 and physically, I’m in 2009.  You guys better catch up!  LOL!  I’ve been working so I hardly ever get to watch television, but the one night I did, I watched this show called Born With No Arms.  There was a girl who really caught my attention.  Her name is Jessica Cox, arm-less, and…a pilot.  How cool is that?  She can fly a plane with no arms!  I think that is awesome!  She and the guy (can’t remember his name) that can play guitar with no arms are truly blessed and they know it too!  It’s amazing how God can use people even when they don’t know they’re being used.  God’s awesome!!  This year is going to be great.  I have to opportunity to travel again, this time it’s overseas…yes that’s right…I’m going on one of the mission trips offered through UM.  I’m going to Malta!  I’m excited about everything…the preparations…the fundraising…the “doubt” period (there’s always one…prayerfully I won’t go through it)…the training…the trip itself…I’m excited!!  It’s going to be awesome!  I’m declaring it now that 2010 is going to be an AWESOME year!!  Hallelujah!  I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What A Day!

So, I decided to pull another all nighter.  This time it was not that bad.  My all nighter began at 2 in the morning.  I went to the kitchen and turned on the Fog (the old movie) and was watching that writing my paper.  I fell asleep briefly and some comedian turned the lights off on me.  I woke up very afraid and paranoid that something was going to get me.  After that, I watched Godzilla and finished my paper around 6 that morning.  I had a final at 9:30 so I had two choices:  I could either stay up and study for that final (since I had not all week) or I could sleep for an hour and wake up and study.  I chose to sleep, but I did not sleep for an hour…no…I slept until 10 o’clock.  Another hard sleep too without the “punch in the face” pain.  I did not even hear my alarm (my roommate heard it though and said that I turned it off).  I almost missed my final.  It was ridiculous!  I was so scatter brain going into the final.  After the final, I turned in the two papers I was working on during the two all nighters.  Then I realized that I was completely done for the semester.  God is so wonderful!!  I got to see my friend Alicia, who was in Taiwan for the semester.  She is so awesome!  That afternoon, I went to Wal-Mart, and then to Light of the Village and had a blast and then to Wal-Mart again.  My friends and I had a Christmas party, where we had the best food ever.  Man, my girls can cook!  Jessica made jambalaya that her and her boyfriend came up with, Morgan made a turkey wreath, Shelley made spinach and artichoke dip, and Sarah made her famous Cunningham Snack (one word:AMAZING)!  It was all good.  I made strawberry cheesecake, but we did not get to eat it…yet!  It was a great bonding time being with them one last time before the holidays.  I love my friends!  They are really amazing and I am so grateful to have them!  God did a good job at picking them!  Thank you God!

Hard Sleep

Up All Night began last night.  Trey Taulbee played music until midnight.  It was great.  There weren’t a lot of people there though, but again, it was the first night.  I honestly do not know why I stayed up until 3 a.m.  I did not do anything but socialize and eat.  I do know that I slept so hard that I did not even hear my roommate leave this morning.  I slept until 10 when I received a voicemail from someone.  It was great sleep too.  This afternoon was productive though-I and some friends of mine went to Panera Bead for lunch and we stayed there for hours studying.  It was great bonding time.   I have to write a paper now so break time is over.

All Nighters Are Not Fun Alone

So, I decided to pull an all nighter by myself…yeah…first mistake…I tried to make my morning interesting by watching the Wiz, the Cable Guy, and Crash on T.V…second mistake…all it did was distract me from my work.  At around 9:30 this morning, I quit doing my work to go to class which was cancelled so I visited my professor/advisor and talked to him about my work.  After that I ate lunch with Keri, who took me on a shopping spree for my birthday.  It was awesome and I wish I was not feeling so crappy so I could enjoy it even more.  Anyway, I got some really cute tops and the one thing I have been wanting for a long time.  After the shopping trip, I came back to my room to go to sleep…third mistake…only to be awaken by loudness on the hall, a confusing text, and this weird feeling that I had missed out on something (free books?  I do not know).  It was horrible.  I should have just stayed awake like I was going to do in the first place.  I woke up with this pressure (like I got punched several times while I was sleeping) in my head, in the middle of my face.  I was not planning on going to church, but I will go (confused and in pain, lol).  Two more days.

“If You Think Walmart Saves, Try Jesus!!”

I know you are wondering about the title, but just wait……

The Special Guest (or shall I say guests) at True Spin were Phil Wickham and Chris & Conrad.  They are on the Heaven and Earth tour.  The great thing about them performing is that they called us and asked if they could perform at True Spin.  How awesome is God!!  I mean for real!  CAB sponsored the concert and we paid them less than we did when we had just Mr. Phil (without his band) come and perform last year.  A lot of people don’t know that, but this is the inside scoop into what happened behind the scenes.  The concert was amazing!  I will have to admit though, it took me a minute to get into worship mode.  I was so pumped about them coming to perform that I forgot that true spin is all about Jesus, worshipping Him and giving Him honor, glory, and praise.  For a second (well maybe more than a second), I forgot that and I’m not afraid to admit it.  I had a great worship experience, but I can only speak for myself.  I apologize if that sounds a bit selfish, but God loves individual praises as well as corporate praises and corporate praise can only begin if an individual starts it.  Wow!  Food for thought!  Thank you God!

One privilege of being in CAB is getting the opportunity to meet the band…now I’m not saying we all sit down and have chit chat.  No, you meet the band by helping…a lot of people misconstrue the idea and some people have over-exaggerated this idea as well.  I hope you got the gist of it, if you don’t, just stop me and ask me what I mean.  Anyway, Chris and Conrad were hilarious!  I had the opportunity to sell merchandise at Chris & Conrad’s table, and they cracked me up!  They were explaining how to work the credit card machine and telling us about their merchandise.  It was just funny.  Nothing inappropriate was said, you just had to be there though.  Phil Wickham works very hard.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone clear the Cafe of tables and chairs and then set up a merchandise table in less than thirty minutes.  He had help too.  We didn’t let him do it by himself…but I’m sure if we weren’t there, he could have done it.  LOL!  He was great though.  The worship service/concert was awesome!  I took pictures on my camera phone since I had front row seats (also another privilege for volunteering with CAB ;) ).  I hope you enjoy them…keep in mind they are from my phone!  LOL!

I hope you are having a great week so far!  We got a Dodgeball Tournament coming up, Preview Day, NeedtoBreathe, and Covers XVI (CAB’s last event of the semester).  Whooo!  I can’t believe this semester is almost over.  Hallelujah!  I’m excited!  Oh yeah!

Influx Week

Thanksgiving break is over and I had a wonderful time.  The time spent with family was great, but now it is time for Finals to begin.  Actually, they do not begin until Tuesday, but Monday starts off a new week…the last week of the semester…finals week…aka…influx week meaning everything from papers to projects and blogs (for me and my fellow bloggers) are due this week.  I plan to write a blog (maybe even two) everyday documenting what is going on with me.  So get ready for them.  They maybe as short as this blog too.  Holla!

Murder Mystery aka Monster’s Ball 2009

julisa09

Amazing!  The light show was great…the food was great (would have been greater had the chocolate fountain worked, but it’s okay)…the space was large enough…the music was great…the murder mystery part was great…the decorations were simple, but great!  It was awesome!  I was Bon Qui Qui and it was fun being her for the evening.  I wasn’t in character the whole time, but it was great.  There were so many creative costumes this year.  My favorite costume was the Mad Hatter from the Alice in Wonderland movie…she was Edward Scissorhands last year and that was amazing as well.  This year was fun even though I was stressed out half the time.  All week I was stressing about it, but it turned out to be great and a lot of fun.  I’m grateful it was great.  The Murder Mystery part of Monster’s Ball–we sent out a fake “crime notice” that many people though was real until they saw the heading.  Then we made clues to the murder on poster boards and put them in the dorms and in the Cafe.  Trey Taulbee was the murderer and he used a guitar string to “kill” Kris Nelson.  The plot to the murder was Trey wanted Kris’ position so he killed him.  There were so many clues that pointed straight to Trey, it was awesome!  The photo shoot was really cool and then at Monster’s Ball, we decorated the storage room to look like the murder was done there.  It looked awesome!  I wish I had a camera again.  :(   One day…

Anyway, CAB has two more events before the semester ends…that is really weird to say…”before the semester ends”.  We are in the final stretch y’all.  Yay!!  :^)  I’m excited.  I hope you have a great week!

Long Overdue Blog

julisa09

I think everyday before today I said to myself and others that I need to write a blog.  LOL!

I had an awesome fall break!  It was fun and relaxing.  I went home, went to church, and went to work…it was awesome!  I’m sure those that I’ve told may have thought I was being sarcastic, but I was most definitely not being sarcastic.  I mean work was hard, but it was great to be working with Belk again.  I was nice to know that I was missed too.  It was an ‘Awwww’ moment for me.  Church was off the chain!  I remember asking God to let me attend service on Wednesday and Friday and He allowed me to go to all the services that the church I attend had.  Awesome!  I came back to school ready, fulfilled, and revived.  It was a great feeling.  Everyday is a blessing and a battle for me.  I thank God I’m alive and I have to fight the devil to keep my testimony.  It’s something else.  Anyway, I’ve been busy helping CAB with Monster’s Ball which is Saturday, October 31st.  It’s going to be amazing!  I’m excited!  I think I’m even more excited about Spirit Week happening.

I hope you have a great week!  “He is Α&Ω!”

Dear God,

julisa09

Thank you for the beautiful weather you’ve shown to us this past week!  Thank you for the sunshine, the breeze, and the cool nights.  You’ve been gracious enough to let us enjoy the first week of fall.  I also want to thank you for the rain that is coming.  I know the earth needs it, because it has been sunny all week with no moisture to water the ground.  God, you’re indescribable!  And I love you!  I love the way you talk so sweetly into our ears even when we don’t hear you sometimes.  I love how you embrace us when we don’t even embrace others.  I love it when you put us in our place when we ask you to do something and we don’t believe you can do it.  I love what you can and won’t do, because you didn’t make us to please us.  We were made to worship, adore, and love you, our Creator.  I love where you take us to share your love to others.  I love why you love us the way you do!  Like I said before, you’re indescribable God, and I just wanted to dedicate a blog to you to let you know how much I adore and love you even when I don’t show it to you and to others!  You’ve allowed me to blog for three years, and I’m grateful!  I love you God!

What A Shocking Weekend!

julisa09

This is going to be kinda long…be prepared…ha ha ha!  :D

–Friday aka Preview Day–

I thought the day went well.  I got the opportunity to visit Oakdale, the education building by escorting some potential education majors there.  The girls were pretty sweet.  I made them late going back to Weaver though…my bad!  I was a little confused during the browse section of the day.  I didn’t really get to talk about CAB to any of the preview students, and I’m not the kind of person that would just grab someone I don’t know and force them to listen to me.  That’s just me; I don’t have that blessing.  The CPA did great lifting up the name of Jesus and showcasing their talents.

Movie night, I believe, was a success.  Before the movie, while we were setting up, I got shocked.  My stupid self, after plugging in the popcorn machine, decided to poke my finger around in the light bulb area to find a light bulb, well to shorten the story, I got shocked.  It left a red, curved mark on my right arm (its gone now).  Other than that, the movie Up was great; such a cute movie.  I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be as funny and serious as it was.  Great choice Anna (fellow CAB teammate)!  I ended the night eating a 6-inch Chicken Teryaki sandwich from Subway watching Soul Food with my preview students.

–Saturday–

Shelley and I went shopping from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  It was great.  We went to Old Navy, Bel-Aire Mall, Ross, and Wal-Mart.  I was shopping for jeans because I have four pairs of jeans that either have a hold in it or has been cut because there was a hole in it.  I found some jeans at Ross.  I also found two dresses, but didn’t have the money for it right now (jeans were the priority!!).  Came back to school and ate in the Cafeteria (mmm Mushroom Ravioli).  Yummy!  Then I made Monkey Bread (which I got the recipe from Mrs. Heddrick).  After making that, some friends and I watched Mighty Morphing Power Rangers and then Shelley and I watched the Breakfast Club. It was great!  We basically made fun of both movies.  :D

–Sunday–

Pancake Breakfast……one word……DELICIOUS!!  It was great!  The message was hard hitting too.  I don’t think the church wanted to hear what the preacher said.  I think it was necessary to be taught, but not at someone else’s church.  That’s just like a preacher coming to someone’s church saying that they don’t pay tithes and offering when the preacher is only a guest….I’m just saying!  It was just my opinion.  I honestly think the church should have gone to the revival with the pastor…Anyway, the rest of the day was good. I went to work the last week on Phonathon.  It was a good night.  I didn’t get a single donation, but I talked to some great people.

Overall my weekend was great!  Fall Break is coming up soon….are you ready?
