Murder Mystery aka Monster’s Ball 2009

julisa09

Amazing!  The light show was great…the food was great (would have been greater had the chocolate fountain worked, but it’s okay)…the space was large enough…the music was great…the murder mystery part was great…the decorations were simple, but great!  It was awesome!  I was Bon Qui Qui and it was fun being her for the evening.  I wasn’t in character the whole time, but it was great.  There were so many creative costumes this year.  My favorite costume was the Mad Hatter from the Alice in Wonderland movie…she was Edward Scissorhands last year and that was amazing as well.  This year was fun even though I was stressed out half the time.  All week I was stressing about it, but it turned out to be great and a lot of fun.  I’m grateful it was great.  The Murder Mystery part of Monster’s Ball–we sent out a fake “crime notice” that many people though was real until they saw the heading.  Then we made clues to the murder on poster boards and put them in the dorms and in the Cafe.  Trey Taulbee was the murderer and he used a guitar string to “kill” Kris Nelson.  The plot to the murder was Trey wanted Kris’ position so he killed him.  There were so many clues that pointed straight to Trey, it was awesome!  The photo shoot was really cool and then at Monster’s Ball, we decorated the storage room to look like the murder was done there.  It looked awesome!  I wish I had a camera again.  :(   One day…

Anyway, CAB has two more events before the semester ends…that is really weird to say…”before the semester ends”.  We are in the final stretch y’all.  Yay!!  :^)  I’m excited.  I hope you have a great week!

Long Overdue Blog

julisa09

I think everyday before today I said to myself and others that I need to write a blog.  LOL!

I had an awesome fall break!  It was fun and relaxing.  I went home, went to church, and went to work…it was awesome!  I’m sure those that I’ve told may have thought I was being sarcastic, but I was most definitely not being sarcastic.  I mean work was hard, but it was great to be working with Belk again.  I was nice to know that I was missed too.  It was an ‘Awwww’ moment for me.  Church was off the chain!  I remember asking God to let me attend service on Wednesday and Friday and He allowed me to go to all the services that the church I attend had.  Awesome!  I came back to school ready, fulfilled, and revived.  It was a great feeling.  Everyday is a blessing and a battle for me.  I thank God I’m alive and I have to fight the devil to keep my testimony.  It’s something else.  Anyway, I’ve been busy helping CAB with Monster’s Ball which is Saturday, October 31st.  It’s going to be amazing!  I’m excited!  I think I’m even more excited about Spirit Week happening.

I hope you have a great week!  “He is Α&Ω!”

Dear God,

julisa09

Thank you for the beautiful weather you’ve shown to us this past week!  Thank you for the sunshine, the breeze, and the cool nights.  You’ve been gracious enough to let us enjoy the first week of fall.  I also want to thank you for the rain that is coming.  I know the earth needs it, because it has been sunny all week with no moisture to water the ground.  God, you’re indescribable!  And I love you!  I love the way you talk so sweetly into our ears even when we don’t hear you sometimes.  I love how you embrace us when we don’t even embrace others.  I love it when you put us in our place when we ask you to do something and we don’t believe you can do it.  I love what you can and won’t do, because you didn’t make us to please us.  We were made to worship, adore, and love you, our Creator.  I love where you take us to share your love to others.  I love why you love us the way you do!  Like I said before, you’re indescribable God, and I just wanted to dedicate a blog to you to let you know how much I adore and love you even when I don’t show it to you and to others!  You’ve allowed me to blog for three years, and I’m grateful!  I love you God!

What A Shocking Weekend!

julisa09

This is going to be kinda long…be prepared…ha ha ha!  :D

–Friday aka Preview Day–

I thought the day went well.  I got the opportunity to visit Oakdale, the education building by escorting some potential education majors there.  The girls were pretty sweet.  I made them late going back to Weaver though…my bad!  I was a little confused during the browse section of the day.  I didn’t really get to talk about CAB to any of the preview students, and I’m not the kind of person that would just grab someone I don’t know and force them to listen to me.  That’s just me; I don’t have that blessing.  The CPA did great lifting up the name of Jesus and showcasing their talents.

Movie night, I believe, was a success.  Before the movie, while we were setting up, I got shocked.  My stupid self, after plugging in the popcorn machine, decided to poke my finger around in the light bulb area to find a light bulb, well to shorten the story, I got shocked.  It left a red, curved mark on my right arm (its gone now).  Other than that, the movie Up was great; such a cute movie.  I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be as funny and serious as it was.  Great choice Anna (fellow CAB teammate)!  I ended the night eating a 6-inch Chicken Teryaki sandwich from Subway watching Soul Food with my preview students.

–Saturday–

Shelley and I went shopping from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  It was great.  We went to Old Navy, Bel-Aire Mall, Ross, and Wal-Mart.  I was shopping for jeans because I have four pairs of jeans that either have a hold in it or has been cut because there was a hole in it.  I found some jeans at Ross.  I also found two dresses, but didn’t have the money for it right now (jeans were the priority!!).  Came back to school and ate in the Cafeteria (mmm Mushroom Ravioli).  Yummy!  Then I made Monkey Bread (which I got the recipe from Mrs. Heddrick).  After making that, some friends and I watched Mighty Morphing Power Rangers and then Shelley and I watched the Breakfast Club. It was great!  We basically made fun of both movies.  :D

–Sunday–

Pancake Breakfast……one word……DELICIOUS!!  It was great!  The message was hard hitting too.  I don’t think the church wanted to hear what the preacher said.  I think it was necessary to be taught, but not at someone else’s church.  That’s just like a preacher coming to someone’s church saying that they don’t pay tithes and offering when the preacher is only a guest….I’m just saying!  It was just my opinion.  I honestly think the church should have gone to the revival with the pastor…Anyway, the rest of the day was good. I went to work the last week on Phonathon.  It was a good night.  I didn’t get a single donation, but I talked to some great people.

Overall my weekend was great!  Fall Break is coming up soon….are you ready?

Who Brings a Water Gun to Battle?

julisa09

….so, I’m running around the Quileute Werewolves from Twilight (mostly Sam Uley).  All of a sudden I’m with Jacob Black and we’re talking until Edward shows up.  Jacob and Edward get into an argument and Edward shows off a scar that he received from Jacob.  They start fighting and I end up in a desert next to Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day).  There were preparing to go check out an alien ship that had crashed in the desert.  I say something and then Will Smith says the same thing.  I sigh and then I end up in a cave with a bunch of troops armed for battle.  We see a Tyrannosaurus Rex heading towards a group of people on the ground.  I’m panicking because I know we need to do something, but my commander was being an idiot.  So, I beat him up and kick him into a tunnel which lead to the ground where the dinosaur is and I pick up a gun.  I aim the gun towards the T-Rex’s head and try to pull the trigger, but it doesn’t shoot.  So, I unlock the gun and I aim again.  This time as I pulled the trigger…water came out!  I was hot.  I went to the second in command who was a female and asked her “who brings a water gun to battle?” and she as well as all the other troops around me laugh.  This made me angrier so I started shooting them all with my water gun.  Then the dinosaur came into the cave where we were because I had aggravated him with the water, that’s when I woke up.

Weird dream…I know…I just thought I would share it with my readers.  My friend, Keri, told me that I made her night when I told her my dream.  She suggested that I write this blog.  She also got a revelation out of my dream.  She said that we should stop trying to defeat the devil with a water gun since we have a water hose (Jesus) behind us.  I was like “Wow!  That’s deep and so true!”  So there you have it.  If you are going through something, just remember a few things:  (1) You are not the only one going through something  (2) The battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s; stop trying to fight the devil with a water gun, use the water hose  (3) You have not, because you ask not; ask God to help, and He will  (4) There’s always hope in a storm.

I know…I’m a witness!  Have a great week!

What A Beautiful Day!

julisa09

I don’t know about you, but Sunday was just awesome!  It was a gorgeous day!  Church was great.  I may have found a place to get plugged in, but I don’t know yet.  Pray for me on that.  I really like this church because I know I could get fed the Word of God and it can challenge me to be better, which is what we all need.  The only thing is, I don’t really know how I can serve this body of Christ.  Just keep me in your prayers.  I’m a junior, and I should be plugged in already, but I’m not unfortunately.  It gives me great joy to see some of the sophomores already plugged in though.  I witnessed that on Dinner on the Run.  Two of the churches we visited had sophomores helping with the different courses of a meal and I thought that was awesome!  Other than that, brunch was good and then being outside reading and playing Skip-Bo was even “funner”!  Yea I said it!  LOL!  :D   Actually, I was quoting Elle Woods from Legally Blonde (awesome movie).  Sunday was a great day!  Keep me in your prayers!  I hope you have a great week!  There’s lots going on!

Another Week Down…Several More To Go :D

julisa09

True Spin kicked off this week and it was awesome.  I’m really excited to be learning about the Parables of Jesus this semester!  I think it’s going to be great.  Ice cream sundaes in the Cafe was great too!  ¡Muy riquisímo!  I think that’s pretty much all that happened.

I decided to go home this weekend…just out of the blue.  Church was awesome Friday night!  Very refreshing and helpful.  The sermon touched on a lot of bases that I have been dealing with these past couple of weeks.  It was just what I needed.  I’m making this blog short and sweet so, I hope you have a great weekend!

Inflatables…on Campus?

julisa09

Yes, tis true…tis very true!  So the weekend was awesome!  Dinner on the Run was a big success.  Thankfully, there was no pizza as the main course (we had pulled pork sandwiches).  Yes!!  :D   But overall, it was great.  I met a bunch new people and even found someone to give one of my textbooks to!  It was great!  Unfortunately, I don’t remember all of their names…it’s kind of sad, but okay at the same time because they don’t remember my name.  LOL!  Project Serve was great as well.  Cleaning up Pritchard was pretty awesome.  I didn’t really get to evangelize, but the people were friendly.  When I was on the bus, fear hit me, but when I got off the bus and walked around a bit, the fear dissipated.  It was a wonderful feeling.  I found a dime and a necklace, but I accidentally threw the necklace away.  That night I watched Beauty and the Beast and the end of Titanic with my friends.  Then we watched one of the funniest videos I’ve seen so far called Single Ladies Gone Wrong.  I don’t know why I laugh at stupid videos, but I do.  Sunday evening, a student, who shall remain nameless unless you just really want to know, brought some inflatables.  We hooked them up and played on them.  It was fun and very random.  A lot of people came out and it was great.  It was just fun!  Of course, waking up Monday morning sore from running and jumping wasn’t fun, but it was still great.  CAB had its first meeting Monday evening and it went very well.  I’m really excited about all the volunteers that signed up and even those that didn’t sign up.  I was just excited to see them there.  It’s a blessing really.  I’m hoping this year, we’ll have more faithful volunteers.  We had a few last year, but every year we are supposed to grow more and become better.  I hope you have a great week!

School Is For The Cool Kids

julisa09

The first three days of school went very well for me.  My schedule is awesome because I have all morning classes which means I can do homework in the afternoons before all the fun begins at night.  Yay!  :D   I’m excited!  I’ve had a great days so far.  The Ram Corps performances were AWESOME!  I was excited to see them twice.  My favorite part was the Drum line.  All I have to say is ‘You Go Drum line!’  They did their thing!!  They were rocking!  By the way, I love Disney!  When they played the Disney Melody, I was really excited!  Loved it!!  It was great!  I really feel sorry for anyone that didn’t see them play at least once.  Your loss!  :P

I’m really looking forward to the weekend…Dinner on the Run (free home cooked meals, unless they have pizza :( ), Project Serve, and visiting friends.  This weekend is going to be great!  I hope you have a great weekend as well!

Getting Back in the Swing of Things

julisa09

To the Freshmen and Transfers, welcome to the University of Mobile and to the returning students, welcome back!

My name is Julisa and I am really excited to be blogging again this year.  This will be my third year blogging :D   It feels weird (in a good way) being back on campus.  I moved in about three days before all the freshmen and returning students did because I’m one of the Campus Life Leaders.  It felt good to just move in and get settled and then get the ball rolling.  I have been moving nonstop since my move-in day.  I love Ram Central Station aka Ram Hall until someone donates money and renames it.  It’s huge and the auditorium is so versitile.  I was a little worried about having the UM Expo in there, but it worked out great.

Ram Rush was awesome this year!  If you missed you, too bad for you!  Move-in day was better than last year.  There’s still some kinks we need to work out, but it was good.  I missed Hello UM and the Hoedown, but I heard that it was amazing!  I guess my senior year will be the year when I experience Hello UM because my freshman year I moved in on a Sunday night, last year I was at a wedding, and this year I was hanging out with one of my good friends before she left the country.  So, maybe my senior year will be the year!  LOL!  Anyway, the Mexican Fiesta was fun and the Jon McLaughlin Concert was amazing!  That guy is a beast on the piano, no lie!  He did a great job!  And since the concert was a CAB event, I and Daniel (my team member) had the honor of going to get their food.  It was cool.  The Third Grade Birthday Party was too cute!  I loved it!  They showed one of my favorite movies during lunch…High School Musical 3!  (I love it because it’s cheesy!  LOL!).  The Dinner and a Movie (the Natural) was awesome!  The surprise ending was perfect timing!  Fireworks are awesome!  Yea!  Ram Rush first!  It was great.  The Expo as I said before went great.  The Walk came with its tradition of raining, but the dinner was beautiful and tasty.  And as always the Goodwill Gala was the bomb diggity and so much fun!  I met some really cool people!  The Tip Tops were even better than last year.

The standard is high for CAB this year and I’m glad because we will be pumping out some great events this year!  I know we’ll pull through for you, UM.  I hope you have an awesome first day of school!  In the words of Dr. Foley, “This isn’t camp!”  Thank you for reading!
