I know you are wondering about the title, but just wait……

The Special Guest (or shall I say guests) at True Spin were Phil Wickham and Chris & Conrad.  They are on the Heaven and Earth tour.  The great thing about them performing is that they called us and asked if they could perform at True Spin.  How awesome is God!!  I mean for real!  CAB sponsored the concert and we paid them less than we did when we had just Mr. Phil (without his band) come and perform last year.  A lot of people don’t know that, but this is the inside scoop into what happened behind the scenes.  The concert was amazing!  I will have to admit though, it took me a minute to get into worship mode.  I was so pumped about them coming to perform that I forgot that true spin is all about Jesus, worshipping Him and giving Him honor, glory, and praise.  For a second (well maybe more than a second), I forgot that and I’m not afraid to admit it.  I had a great worship experience, but I can only speak for myself.  I apologize if that sounds a bit selfish, but God loves individual praises as well as corporate praises and corporate praise can only begin if an individual starts it.  Wow!  Food for thought!  Thank you God!

One privilege of being in CAB is getting the opportunity to meet the band…now I’m not saying we all sit down and have chit chat.  No, you meet the band by helping…a lot of people misconstrue the idea and some people have over-exaggerated this idea as well.  I hope you got the gist of it, if you don’t, just stop me and ask me what I mean.  Anyway, Chris and Conrad were hilarious!  I had the opportunity to sell merchandise at Chris & Conrad’s table, and they cracked me up!  They were explaining how to work the credit card machine and telling us about their merchandise.  It was just funny.  Nothing inappropriate was said, you just had to be there though.  Phil Wickham works very hard.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone clear the Cafe of tables and chairs and then set up a merchandise table in less than thirty minutes.  He had help too.  We didn’t let him do it by himself…but I’m sure if we weren’t there, he could have done it.  LOL!  He was great though.  The worship service/concert was awesome!  I took pictures on my camera phone since I had front row seats (also another privilege for volunteering with CAB ).  I hope you enjoy them…keep in mind they are from my phone!  LOL!

I hope you are having a great week so far!  We got a Dodgeball Tournament coming up, Preview Day, NeedtoBreathe, and Covers XVI (CAB’s last event of the semester).  Whooo!  I can’t believe this semester is almost over.  Hallelujah!  I’m excited!  Oh yeah!

“He is Α&Ω!”

Well, it was a great Thanksgiving! I headed home Tuesday afternoon about four o’clock and arrived in Montgomery just in time for our annual Thanksgiving meal and service at church. It was great to see my church family and experience this familiar event that occurs each year. Wednesday was a long day of wedding dress shopping with my sister and mom. My sister tried on about one hundred dresses, and everyone  of them looked beautiful on her. On Thursday we prepared all day for the huge food feast that night. We decided to do a Thanksgiving dinner at 6:00. Just like every year, I ate entirely too much and felt like a balloon afterwards. I will admit, however, the food was quite a step up from the normal college student food. I was glad to receive some home cooked meals. Most of all, I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my family. My brother, a seminary student in North Carolina, came home for the first time since August. I was so excited to see him!

After a fulfilling Thanksgiving day, I headed to Auburn, Alabama for the iron bowl. My roommate, Allie, and her family have season tickets and were nice enough to invite me along with them to the game on Friday. Let me just say, it was quite an intense and shocking game. I was truly not expecting the performance Auburn put on against Bama. From the first row of the end zone, we watched every single play with anticipation. Although the result of the game was not my preference, I was very proud of Auburn and their hard work that day. Alabama was definitely shown out on Friday.

It’s so weird that we are back at school for only one week, then out for Christmas. I really cannot wait to be at home relaxing for a month. This schedule certainly beats the two week winter break we were given in high school. But this means that I have some serious Christmas shopping to do before December 25! This week won’t be too fun with finals, but I’m looking forward to a great break and the beginning of a new semester in January. Thanksgiving break is over and I had a wonderful time.  The time spent with family was great, but now it is time for Finals to begin.  Actually, they do not begin until Tuesday, but Monday starts off a new week…the last week of the semester…finals week…aka…influx week meaning everything from papers to projects and blogs (for me and my fellow bloggers) are due this week.  I plan to write a blog (maybe even two) everyday documenting what is going on with me.  So get ready for them.  They maybe as short as this blog too.  Holla!

So it has been a really long time since I have blogged. These past couple of weeeks have been pretty busy and crazy. Last night was the final night of Christmas Spectacular, and it was very successful! It was so weird participating in it this year, rather than sitting in the audience like the past five years. I’m so glad I got to be a part of this awesome display of the talent here at UM. Impact performed one song in the program this year, and I was blessed to be a part of that. After a busy week of singing and standing for hours at a time, I am extremely exhausted.

The plans for this weekend are as follows:

Attend a Twighlight birthday party and late night showing of New Moon, which I have mixed feelings toward

Aquire some major hours of sleep on Saturday

Complete a beautiful masterpiece collage for art appreciation

Attend a Christmas sweater birthday party Saturday night

Each much food at  a Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday

Enjoy my last weekend before going home

Last Tuesday, I spilled my hot chocolate again. Apparently the whole “stain it evenly” thing was a bit prophetic, but I promise I didn’t mean to this time. In fact, I put said hot chocolate in a coffee cup with a lid under the assumption that if it tipped over, I would have time to pick it up before the hot chocolate spilled everywhere. Alas, I was wrong. Now, I simply put my mug of hot chocolate on the floor. I digress – my ottoman is not a cupholder.

In further news, we had a bit of wind and rain blow through here named Ida. In typical Ramland fashion, classes were promptly cancelled and I promptly fled to the Upper Room of my parent’s abode, where I opened the doors and enjoyed a gentle mist and light (okay, maybe slightly more forceful than light) breeze. Oh, and I took advantage of said time in the Upper Room to complete my Honors Research. 14 pages, 26 sources and several creepy dreams about the French Revolution later, I am finished.
And I’m not really sure what to do with myself, but I got a great night’s sleep last night.

That being said, I am perhaps the most old-ladylike college student ever. Last night, I went to sleep at approximately 10:05. And I am completely okay with that.

Anyway, I suppose I should regress back to the point of this whole blogging fiasco: Come to UM. It’s a pretty splendid place.

I love college.

It turns out that sometimes hurricanes are all talk. Ida approached Mobile at the beginning of this week, and everyone knew that we were doomed. Freshmen panicked. Everyone else anticipated an evacuation. UM Alert informed the student body that classes were canceled from 3 PM on Monday through 12 PM on Tuesday. And there was much rejoicing.

As it turns out, when classes are canceled on Tuesday morning, Monday nights turn into Friday nights. People were hanging out in the dorms until midnight, and then when the RA’s (such as myself) kicked them out, they braved the storm and hit up Waffle House (the ONLY restaurant that stayed open past 7 on Monday night). Hurricanes make ordinary people do crazy things. And, as I discovered this week, Hurricanes, when downgraded to a tropical storm, make college students party like it’s 1999.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Adam, why would smart college students risk their lives by going out in the storm at midnight?” I’ll let you make your own assumptions there. However, I will say that I have seen thunderstorms do more damage than Ida. She will forever be remembered as the Gentle Hurricane. Such a nice little storm.

It is bright and early (thank you, daylight savings time) on Thursday morning and I was enjoying a cup of hot chocolate until I spilled it all over my light brown ottoman. Perhaps, if I spill it again, I can manage to stain it evenly.

Let’s see – this past week was filled with class, work, doctor’s visits (too many!) and Honors Research. It is time for yet another Honors Paper, which, strangely enough, is my favorite part of college. After 3 months of research, I have at last completed my outline (which is a third of the required length of the paper. Hmm …) and am spending most of my time stringing it together into complete and legible sentences. Perhaps, one day (after the paper is due), I shall dream of something other than the nature of man and political theorists …

It has now come to my attention that 3 clocks within my dorm room each claim a different time. That is unacceptable.

In further news, I found a bucket of cookie dough in my fridge last week. I don’t think the cookie dough gods exist, but if they did, they must have been smiling upon me. Said bucket is now nearly empty. Do the cookie dough gods give free refills?

Anyway, my allotted blogging minutes are now running into overtime (yes, I live on a minute-by-minute basis. It ensures that I obtain 7-8 hours of sleep each night).

Hello everyone! It’s the middle of the week and I’m just about ready for the weekend. Things are beginning to get very busy in the CPA department with Christmas Spectacular. Next week calls for many rehearsals and long nights. I am excited about performing at Dauphin Way with the massive choir and many ensembles. It will be quite a change from sitting in the audience the last 5 years. Impact will be singing a new Christmas song we’ve been working on along with the band, orchestra, and a select few from the choir. I can’t believe the semester is almost over and Christmas is so soon! I should probably start my shopping soon for presents…

Something the Lord has been showing me recently is just how selfish I am. I know, very random, but it’s really been something that He’s convicted me about. I find myself so often caught up in my own busy schedule without even taking the time to concern myself with others’ needs. I tend to load myself with worry over schoolwork or obligations I need to fulfill. How do I so easily lose sight each day of my purpose? I was created to worship the Lord and serve others. It’s that simple, yet I fail over and over.

Psalm 37:23-24 says, “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”

If I am constantly delighting myself in the Lord, then He is delighting in my ways and my steps are made firm! Even if I stumble, I will never completely fall because He will hold me. So yes, I might fail over and over again. Sin might creep into my life every day, but the Lord will never cease to convict and remind me that this life is NOT about me. What a powerful truth!

Amazing!  The light show was great…the food was great (would have been greater had the chocolate fountain worked, but it’s okay)…the space was large enough…the music was great…the murder mystery part was great…the decorations were simple, but great!  It was awesome!  I was Bon Qui Qui and it was fun being her for the evening.  I wasn’t in character the whole time, but it was great.  There were so many creative costumes this year.  My favorite costume was the Mad Hatter from the Alice in Wonderland movie…she was Edward Scissorhands last year and that was amazing as well.  This year was fun even though I was stressed out half the time.  All week I was stressing about it, but it turned out to be great and a lot of fun.  I’m grateful it was great.  The Murder Mystery part of Monster’s Ball–we sent out a fake “crime notice” that many people though was real until they saw the heading.  Then we made clues to the murder on poster boards and put them in the dorms and in the Cafe.  Trey Taulbee was the murderer and he used a guitar string to “kill” Kris Nelson.  The plot to the murder was Trey wanted Kris’ position so he killed him.  There were so many clues that pointed straight to Trey, it was awesome!  The photo shoot was really cool and then at Monster’s Ball, we decorated the storage room to look like the murder was done there.  It looked awesome!  I wish I had a camera again.    One day…

Anyway, CAB has two more events before the semester ends…that is really weird to say…”before the semester ends”.  We are in the final stretch y’all.  Yay!!  :^)  I’m excited.  I hope you have a great week!

Alright, for those of you who have been looking for my blog for, oh say, like two months now (sorry Kathy), here’s one. I have no excuses other than pure business.

It’s true. I had hope that it was all a big lie, but the fact of the matter is that once you get into your junior year of college, life gets a little hectic. Course loads get a little more strenuous, cafeteria menus get a little worse, flu overtakes your body a little more, hoses in your engine’s cooling system get holes in them (thanks for the help, Thomas.), teaching Sunday school gets busy (thanks for your help, James.), and I’m sure other stuff goes on as well. The point is, life is short, and days are only 24 hours long, and sometime you have more to do than your clock will allow.

BUT, life is great. Even though classes can be a little tough sometimes, and even though I am tested in various ways, and even though finances may not be as simple as I would like for them to be, I still have a God who is seated on His throne right now, who not only decided to save me (which, by the way, should be more than enough to make life amazing), but also invites me to play a part in His plan. This semester, I have learned many things about my life, as well as several things about God, and I have begun to conclude that there is no reason to ever let the everyday occurrences of life get in the way of my joy. I believe that Chris Tomlin said it well, “I know I am loved by the King, and it makes my heart want to sing.”
